Two drug trafficers get life terms

Two people were awarded imprisonment by an anti-narcotics court in Rawalpind on Wednesday in separate cases of carrying a huge quantity of narcotics.
Musharraf Khan was handed down life term by Judge Arshad Mehmood Tabassum. He was was convicted of carrying 6,724 kg charas in a truck. He was also fined Rs1 million by the court and in case he failed to pay the fine amount he would undergo another four years imprisonment.
Mr Musharraf had been taken into custody by the Anti-Narcotics Force from the Grand Trunk Road near Attock on Oct 12, 2006, after a huge quantity of narcotics had been recovered from his truck.
In the second case, Pervaiz Akhtar was awarded life imprisonment for carrying 181 kilograms of charas in a car. He was also fined Rs500,000 by the court and in case of defaul he would have to undergo another three years imprisonment.
Mr Pervaiz had been arrested with the narcotics by the Anti-Narcotics Force from the Grand Trunk Road on April 17, 2005, while on the way to Lahore from Peshawar.
